ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure women's basketball team will begin the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship on Friday, March 7 at 4:00 p.m. against Rhode Island in Opening Round action. This season's tournament will take place at the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse on the campus of Saint Joseph's University with 12 teams battling for an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Despite losing their final two contests of the regular season, the Bonnies earned the league's seventh seed as they captured the three way tie-breaker over Duquesne and Richmond with a combined 2-1 mark against the clubs. All three teams finished the regular season at 6-8 in the conference.

The Brown and White will meet 10th seeded Rhode Island for the second time this year and will attempt to avenge a 56-48 loss to the Rams on January 19. Friday will mark the 42nd meeting between the two clubs as Rhode Island holds a slight 22-19 all-time advantage. The Rams have captured nine of the last 10 match ups with the lone Bona win coming via a 64-57 triumph at the Reilly Center in 2006-07.

This will be the two teams second ever meeting at the A-10 Championship as Rhode Island handed the Bonnies a 120-64 loss in 1994.

St. Bonaventure enters postseason play this week with the program's most wins at the Division I level with 18 victories and needs just one more to surpass the school's all-time mark. The Brown and White's six Atlantic 10 wins are tied for the third most in the Bona record books since joining the Atlantic 10 in the 1986-87 season, while this season's seventh seed is their highest finish since 1996-97.

With a win over the Rams, the Bonnies would face #15 George Washington on Saturday, March 8 at 4:00 p.m. The Colonials earned a share of the regular season crown, but garnered the second seed due to their regular season loss to Temple. George Washington's only other A-10 defeat this season came at the Reilly Center as the Bonnies snapped a 26-game losing streak to the Colonials while posting their second ever victory over a nationally ranked opponent with the 63-60 upset on February 16.

Fans can follow the Bonnies throughout the A-10 Championship via Gametracker and live audio on www.gobonnies.com. Video streaming of the tournament will be offered by the A-10 at www.atlantic10.org.
