ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Just one day away from graduating from St. Bonaventure with a degree in psychology and a double-minor in Spanish and business administration, senior women's soccer student-athlete Kristin Sotak has decided to extend her career, signing a contract to play professional soccer in Iceland.

Sotak will play for Fjolnir FC, which participates in the Icelandic Premier League that consists of 10 teams. Fjolnir FC is located in a suburban area of Iceland's capital, Reykjavik. The league schedule is 18 games long and runs from mid-May to mid-September.

"I'm so excited for the opportunity to continue to play the sport I love," said Sotak. "This is a great opportunity and I'm so thankful to Manoj and everyone at St. Bonaventure for their help in making this happen. I had a great four years playing at St. Bonaventure."

As a senior co-captain, Sotak earned Atlantic 10 All-Conference second team accolades. The Endwell, N.Y. product spent the entire season as a defensive midfielder, helping a much-improved Bona defense post five shutouts. A versatile player, Sotak also contributed on the offensive end with two goals and one assist. During the season, she was named to the Cleveland State Fall Classic All-Tournament team after scoring the game-winning goal against the host Vikings.

A four-year starter, Sotak compiled 59 starts over her career. She spent most of her time at midfield and defense racking up 14 points on five goals and four assists. Besides excelling on the field, Sotak was equally as talented in the classroom. Her 3.85 cumulative grade-point average helped land her on the A-10 Academic All-Conference team and National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) Scholar All-East Region third team in 2007.

"I am so happy and proud of what Kristin has accomplished in the two years that I've know her," said head coach Manoj Khettry. "She has been a fantastic role-model for our younger players and once again she is opening doors and setting a great standard for our younger players who aspire to play the game after they graduate. I know Kristin will represent St. Bonaventure, herself, and her family with class and I hope that she continues to grow as a player and as a person."
