April 15, 2008
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure women's tennis team dropped its final tune-up before heading to the Atlantic 10 Championship with a 4-3 decision to Niagara at the SBU Outdoor tennis courts earlier this afternoon. The Bonnies have now been defeated in 12 straight matches after posting three straight victories in the fall season. This afternoon's three Bona tallies were the first points scored by the club since a 6-1 loss to Colgate on February 17. Despite dropping the doubles point to Niagara, freshman Maria Barousse and senior Anna Martorell notched a third singles victory by the count of 8-3. The Brown and White were more successful in singles as Barousse, senior Ana Delgado and Martorell each captured positive results. Barousse and Delgado were both victorious in straight sets, while Martorell defeated Niagara's Kim Roberts 6-4, 3-6, 2-2 (1) for the club's third point of the day. With the conclusion of their spring campaign, the Bonnies enter the A-10 Championship at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville, Pa. as the 12th seed. St. Bonaventure will face fifth seeded Xavier on Friday, April 15 at 1:00 p.m. in first round action. Win or lose, the Brown and White will continue competition in the season-ending tournament.
